Jim Dottavio

Jim Dottavio is the Interim Director for the Office of Technology Transfer at West Virginia University. Jim helps oversee the tech transfer function across the University, working with inventors to capture, protect, commercialize and license their inventions. Prior to WVU, Jim’s career included experience in-house at Ford Motor Company and Owens Corning. In these roles, Jim counseled inventors and business leaders on all aspects of intellectual property. Jim obtained thousands of patents for his inventors and drafted agreements related to billions of dollars of investment in technologies. Jim also worked as an engineer for Ford on advanced vehicle programs.

Jim received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute (Now Kettering), his MBA from Bellarmine University, and his Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University. He is a registered Patent Attorney with the USPTO.
