School of Dentistry

Mission

To provide clinical education and training for students pursuing a Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) or advanced dental education in one of five dental specialties, as well as to conduct research in the areas of oral health and overall wellness, dental materials and products, and public health efforts.

  • Access to a large patient population with diverse oral health needs
  • Extensive laboratory and clinical research space
  • Access to extensive core research facilities within the Health Sciences Center and WVU
  • Existing partnerships with other WVU academic units as well as external partners
  • A dental Practice Based Research Network (PBRN) which permits the evaluation of dental products and procedures in a real world setting
  • Center for Dental Innovation and clinical research

Areas of Focus

  • Investigation of the role and importance of oral health as part of overall wellness
  • Management of specific oral diseases that impact overall wellness, such as caries, periodontal disease and oral cancer
  • Clinical evaluation of dental products and procedures
  • Development of novel dental products and treatments

External Partnership Opportunities

The School of Dentistry is looking to partner with external organizations interested in oral health promotion and wellness. We are open to partnering on sponsored and investigator-initiated research, joint development opportunities, and to provide a clinical research framework through our PBRN.
